RPC'S Ice Removal Service
Ice dams can build up at your roof edge in winter. The meltwater on the roof, with no place to go, creeps under the shingles and into your house!
Ice dams may already be building on your roof edges, starting to cause damage you won't see until it's too late! They are the prime cause of those leaks that ruin your interior ceilings! Freeze & thaw cycles speed the destructive process and can cause permanent roof problems. We remove the portion of the ice dam needed to allow meltwater a safe path off the roof and use non-toxic products to seed and remove more of the ice at the roof edge.
What is an "ice dam" and how can this service prevent damage to my home?
Ice builds up in layers at the edge of your roof above the gutters. Heat rising from inside and/or warming temperatures cause the bottom layer of ice to melt first. The front portion of the dam prevents meltwater from leaving the roof and a pool builds up, hidden from view. The shingles/slates on your roof are meant to shed flowing water; not to protect against a pool of water backed up underneath! That water enters your roof structure and destroys plaster ceilings below. Worse, water under the shingles can re-freeze, forcing them up; slate can break. Over winter, this cycle can repeat causing extensive damage to your roof, including fascia-rot leading to falling gutters and providing animals egress.
Our charge for this unique service (limited to 2 hrs of work only)
For a one-man job is $150/1st hour & $75 per additional hour.
For a two-man job is $250/1st hour & $150 per additional hour.
A typical job with a single work area such as a front edge or one valley will not exceed $225. We know what parts of the buildup to remove to allow melt water a SAFE path off your roof. When you call to request the service, tell us where you see inside leaks, if any, and specify which areas of the roof edge you’d like us to concentrate on! ALL our ice-removals are "emergencies" - we do not remove icicles or clean the ice out of gutters.
Leaks inside your home? Remember that after the source of the leak is corrected, you need to fix the interior damage as well. We can handle it all, from fixing the roof/gutters to repairing all that water-damaged inside plaster or woodwork, spot-waterproofing basement walls and then doing any painting that's needed!
